Payments & escrow

How money moves on Near-U — escrow, commission, refunds, payouts.

How does escrow work?

When you book a service, you pay Near-U — not the provider directly. We hold your money in escrow until the work is done.

  • Provider does the job.
  • You confirm it's complete on your booking page.
  • We release the funds to the provider's bank account, minus our commission.

The provider can see that the booking is funded (which is why they show up confidently), but they can't touch the money until you've signed off.

How much does Near-U charge?

Near-U takes a percentage commission on every completed booking. Your provider's plan determines the exact rate:

  • Basic plan — 5% per booking.
  • Pro plan — 8% per booking.

There's no charge to sign up, browse providers, or list services. We only earn when you complete a job. The commission shows up as a separate line on every booking summary so there are no surprises.

How is my card information protected?

All payments are processed by Paystack, Nigeria's biggest payment processor. Near-U never sees or stores your card number — Paystack handles it end-to-end with bank-grade encryption.

We only store a transaction reference so we can refund or trace a payment if something goes wrong.

What about refunds?

Refunds happen in three situations:

  1. You cancel before the job starts. Money goes back to your original card within 3–5 business days (Paystack's standard refund window).
  2. Provider cancels or doesn't show. Automatic full refund — no action needed from you.
  3. You raise a dispute that we rule in your favour. Full or partial refund based on the outcome, processed the same week the dispute resolves.

When do providers get paid?

Providers are paid out weekly, into the Nigerian bank account they registered. The cycle:

  • Job completes → you confirm → escrow releases to Near-U's pool.
  • Every week, we batch all earned-but-unpaid funds per provider.
  • A bank transfer goes out, usually landing the same day or next morning.

Providers can see exactly what's owed, what's in escrow, and what's been paid on their Earnings page.

We use cookies to make Near-U work

Some are essential (your login, your basket of bookings). Others — analytics and marketing — only run if you say yes. Read our privacy policy for the full story.

Privacy Preference Center

When you visit Near-U, we may store small files (cookies) on your device. Some are needed to make the site work — like keeping you signed in. Others are optional and help us understand what's working or show you Near-U on other sites. You decide which optional ones run, and you can change your mind any time from the footer of any page.

Manage your preferences

These cookies are required for Near-U to work. They keep you signed in, hold your CSRF security token, remember the consent choice you're making right now, and let the site serve pages in the right language. The site can't run without them, so they can't be switched off.

Remember the small things that make the site feel like yours — your shared GPS location for distance checks, the tab you last opened in your account page, recent search queries, and which providers you've viewed. The site still works without these, but you'll have to share your location again on every visit.

Help us see how Near-U is being used — which pages people visit, which searches succeed, where errors happen. All data is anonymous and aggregated. We use this to fix bugs and improve flows that confuse people. Currently includes: Google Analytics (when enabled).

Let us show you Near-U adverts on other sites (Facebook, Instagram, Google) and measure whether those adverts brought you back. We may also use these to retarget you if you started a booking but didn't finish. Currently includes: Meta Pixel, Google Ads conversion tracking (when enabled).
